I am a huge fan of Linda Castillo! Can't get enough of her books and her feisty protagonist, Chief Kate Burkholder. One of her books, "Sworn to Silence," was made into a Lifetime Original Movie starring Neve Campbell as Burkholder...the perfect casting...and now I can only see her when I read the books.
Castillo is a master at keeping the book and story moving along. The chapters race at rapid speed with the plot advancing at every turn. I pride myself on being a regular crime reader who isn't easily fooled, but these novels trip me up every time! It's a joy ride for me.
In this particular novel, Castillo enlists our sympathies from the very beginning.... I was hooked. I was taken in track by track as Kate Burkholder moved to solve the crime. This is not a story that you would expect about a sleepy Amish community. It's a down and dirty, every day community hidden behind a strict religious screen that protects it from outsiders. Because Kate grew up Amish, and left the order as a late teen, she has some understanding of the oxymoron, which keeps the story real and revealing to a curious reader.
I highly recommend this series of novels. Murder is possible in the Amish community...from the most unsuspecting people! I loved this book. Also a fabulous read was her book:
This one is about an Amish man and his three children who were hit and run...he and two children killed. Kate finds this was a deliberate act of murder! Fantastic book! It had me guessing until the end.
5 stars for both!
